Privacy policy
Link to Table · Effective 23 October 2026 (updated the same day: fonts are now served from our own website)
This policy explains, in plain English, what happens to your information when you use Link to Table: the web app at recipe-box-8g1.pages.dev, the iPhone and iPad app, and this website (linktotable.co.uk). The short version is that your recipes stay on your device. We don't run accounts, analytics or adverts, and we can't see your recipes.
Who we are
Link to Table is made by Nathan Golder, an individual based in the United Kingdom, who is the "controller" under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). You can contact us at [email protected].
What we don't do
- No accounts or sign-in. We never ask for your name, email address or password.
- No analytics, tracking, advertising or crash reporting. The app has no tracking tools, cookies for tracking, or advertising identifiers built in.
- We don't sell or share your information, and we don't build profiles of you.
Your recipes and settings stay on your device
- Everything you save (recipes, photos, notes, tags, shopping lists, meal plans and settings) is stored only on the device you're using: in your browser's own storage for the web app, or in the app's own files on your iPhone or iPad.
- We have no copy, and no server holding your recipes. If you delete the app or clear your browser's data, they're gone unless you've made a backup.
- Backups are files you create and keep. You choose where they go (for example Files, email or a cloud drive).
- iCloud Drive (iPhone and iPad, optional). If you tap Back up to iCloud Drive, the backup is saved to your own iCloud Drive and handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. We can't see it.
Adding recipes from the web
When you add a recipe from a link, the page has to be downloaded so the app can read it.
- On iPhone and iPad, your device downloads the page directly from the recipe website (or from Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok or X for those links). As with any web visit, that site sees your device's IP address and the page requested, under its own privacy policy.
- In the web app, browsers don't allow this directly, so the page is fetched by a small helper on our website, hosted by Cloudflare. The helper receives the web address you're importing and passes the page back to you. It doesn't keep the address, the page or anything about you, and it doesn't set cookies. Cloudflare, as our hosting provider, processes your IP address and request details to deliver and protect the service, and may keep short-lived technical logs under its own privacy policy.
- For Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok and X links, the app asks those services' public embed or preview addresses for the post's text and picture.
- Recipe photos you haven't saved yourself may be shown straight from the recipe website, which then sees your request in the usual way.
- If you choose to set your own "CORS proxy" in the web app's settings, page requests go through that service instead, under its terms.
Scanning recipes and photos
- Scanning a page from a cookbook happens on your device. In the web app, the text-reading engine (Tesseract) is downloaded from our own website and runs in your browser; on iPhone and iPad it uses Apple's on-device text recognition. Your photos aren't uploaded anywhere.
- On iPhone and iPad the app asks for camera and photo access only when you use those features, and only to take or choose recipe pictures.
Nutrition
Nutrition estimates are worked out on your device from a built-in table based on USDA FoodData Central. Nothing is sent anywhere to calculate them.
Purchases (iPhone and iPad)
The optional unlock is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment and your Apple account under its own terms; we only learn from Apple, on your device, whether the unlock has been bought. We never see your card or contact details.
Sharing
When you share a recipe, shopping list or recipe file, it goes only where you choose, using the apps on your device (Messages, Mail, WhatsApp and so on). Those apps handle it under their own policies.
This website
- This website and the web app are hosted by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to deliver them securely.
- All fonts (including emoji and symbols) are served from our own website, so loading the app or this page doesn't contact Google or other font services.
If you email us
If you contact us at [email protected] (including through Contact & feedback in the app, which adds the app version number to your email), we use your email address and message only to reply and to improve the app, on the basis of our legitimate interest in supporting users. We keep emails for as long as needed to deal with them, then delete them. Email is handled by Google (Gmail).
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold, object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict it. In practice the only personal information we might hold is an email you've sent us. Your recipes are in your hands: you can edit or delete them in the app at any time. To make a request, email [email protected]. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).
Children
Link to Table is a general cooking app and isn't aimed at children. Because we don't collect personal information through the app, children's information isn't collected either. If a child under 13 emails us, a parent or guardian can ask us to delete that email.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes how it handles information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
